How live-to-VOD works
The live stream is already being produced as a sequence of short segments. Instead of discarding them, the platform keeps them and, at the end, assembles a playlist that covers the whole event. That playlist is the on-demand asset. No second upload is needed, so the replay can be available within minutes.
The recording is then trimmed to remove the countdown and dead air, given a title and artwork, and published under whatever access rules apply.
Variants
- Instant replay: the full recording published immediately after the event
- Start-over: a viewer who joins late can begin from the start while the event continues
- Clipping: highlights cut from the stream during the event for sharing and promotion
- Edited edition: a tidied version that replaces the raw recording later
Why it matters
Check your rights first. Permission to stream an event live does not always include the right to offer it on demand afterward.
- Reach: viewers in other time zones and those who could not attend live
- Revenue: include the replay with the ticket, sell it afterward or add it to the subscription
- Catalog: every event becomes a permanent title
- Promotion: highlights from this event sell the next one
