Formats
- Tappable hotspots or product cards that appear as an item comes on screen
- A product shelf beside or below the player
- QR codes on television that open the product page on a phone
- Live shopping: a presenter demonstrates products in a live stream with a buy button
- Shoppable ads: an ad break creative with a direct purchase action
How a purchase works
On a phone or the web, tapping a product opens a card with price and options, and checkout happens in an overlay or a linked store. On a television, where typing and paying are awkward, the usual route is a QR code or a message sent to the viewer's phone, so the purchase is completed there while the program continues.
Behind the screen, products are linked to moments in the video through timed metadata, and the catalog, stock and checkout come from an e-commerce system.
How it earns
It suits content where the products are the interest: cooking, fashion, fitness, home, sport and fan merchandise.
- Your own merchandise, sold at full margin
- Affiliate commission on products sold through partner retailers
- Sponsorship: a brand pays for placement and the shoppable feature
- Higher ad rates for shoppable ad formats
