How multi-currency billing works
Each plan has a price in every supported currency. At checkout the service picks the currency from the viewer's country, and the payment provider charges the card in that currency. The viewer's bank applies no conversion and no foreign transaction fee.
Presentment and settlement
- Presentment currency: what the customer sees and pays in
- Settlement currency: what the business receives in its bank account
- Like-for-like settlement: keeping funds in the currency charged, which avoids conversion but needs an account in that currency
- Converted settlement: the provider converts at its rate and charges a conversion fee
Why it matters
A price in a foreign currency looks unfamiliar, changes with the exchange rate each month and may add a bank fee. All three lower conversion and raise cancellations. Local-currency charges are also approved more often by the customer's bank.
The cost is exchange-rate risk: a fixed local price is worth more or less to you as the rate moves. Review local prices periodically.
