Types of aggregator
- Channel stores: a large service that resells subscriptions to other services inside its own app
- Device platforms: smart TV and streaming-stick home screens that list, search and recommend across installed apps
- Operator bundles: telecom and pay-TV companies that package several services with a connection
- FAST platforms: services that carry many free ad-supported channels from different owners
- Search and guide apps: tools that tell viewers where a title is available
What an aggregator gives and takes
It gives reach. Your service appears in front of an audience that is already there, with billing they have already set up, which makes subscribing a single click.
It takes a share of revenue, and usually the relationship. The aggregator bills the customer, sees the viewing data and decides what is promoted. Subscribers gained there are often invisible to you as individuals.
Aggregators and your own service
The two work together. Your own website and apps are where you keep the full price, the customer data and control. Aggregators extend reach to people who would never have found you. Many services list on several aggregators and still steer their most loyal audience to subscribe directly.
