# What is multi-currency billing?

Multi-currency billing is charging customers in their local currency instead of a single currency for everyone. The price is shown, charged and receipted in that currency, and the business receives the funds either in the same currency or converted to its own.

## How multi-currency billing works

Each plan has a price in every supported currency. At checkout the service picks the currency from the viewer's country, and the payment provider charges the card in that currency. The viewer's bank applies no conversion and no foreign transaction fee.

## Presentment and settlement

- Presentment currency: what the customer sees and pays in
- Settlement currency: what the business receives in its bank account
- Like-for-like settlement: keeping funds in the currency charged, which avoids conversion but needs an account in that currency
- Converted settlement: the provider converts at its rate and charges a conversion fee

## Why it matters

A price in a foreign currency looks unfamiliar, changes with the exchange rate each month and may add a bank fee. All three lower conversion and raise cancellations. Local-currency charges are also approved more often by the customer's bank.

The cost is exchange-rate risk: a fixed local price is worth more or less to you as the rate moves. Review local prices periodically.

## Multi-currency billing on RentAnOTT

Regional payments and tax are included on every RentAnOTT plan, with plans and pricing managed per region in the CMS. Which currencies you can charge in depends on the payment provider set up at launch. [See features](https://www.rentanott.com/features).

- [Transaction fee](https://www.rentanott.com/glossary/transaction-fee) — A transaction fee is an amount deducted from each individual sale, as a percentage, a fixed sum or both. On a streaming service it can be charged by the payment provider, by an app store and, on some platforms, by the platform vendor itself.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is multi-currency billing the same as showing converted prices?

No. A converted display still charges the card in your currency. Multi-currency billing actually charges in the customer's currency.

### Do I need a bank account in every currency?

No. Most payment providers convert to your settlement currency for a fee. Local accounts become worthwhile once a currency carries real volume.

### How should local prices be set?

Not by converting at today's rate. Choose a price that suits the market and looks natural in that currency, then leave it stable.
